Where is Maine Peekytoe Crab?

Where is Maine Peekytoe Crab?

If you have been asking "where is peekytoe crab?" you are not alone. Browne Trading's founder, Rod Mitchell, famously coined the term for this crab back in the 90s and we can never have enough in house. So the question continues, where has it gone?

We source only the very best peekytoe crab from Mount Desert Island, ME - the same island that Acadia National Park lies on. Having worked with the same processor for years, we trust the product, methods, and quality. Sadly, our processor is taking a leave starting in September, which reactively slows the picking process. Until their return, our Maine peekytoe crabmeat is on hold.

We are hoping for a return this winter but cannot provide an exact date at this time.

Peekytoe Crab Substitutions

Although we are out on MDI peekytoe meat, we have a few other crab options. The closest product is our Maine Jonah crabmeat. Similar to peekytoe, it is available in a frozen 1 pound cup.

For the same crab type but with body meat, we carry specialty Peekytoe Body Crabmeat, perfect for crab cakes, soups, or pastas.

Finally, we carry Jonah crab claws, which arrive cooked and frozen for easy preparation.
